Dinners for Six

Friendships are formed around food! Dinners for Six are an opportunity for groups of six adults from Hilltop to connect in a casual, relaxed atmosphere around dinner.

How does Dinners for Six work?

Simply fill out the registration form above for the upcoming semester. This is open to both couples and singles. (Sorry, no children under 18. Mom & Dad, this is your chance to get out as a couple without the kids). We will randomly match up groups of 6 people to gather for dinner (Fall: Sept, Oct, & Nov; Spring: Feb, Mar, & April).

You're with a new group of people each month, and we take turns each being the host, so you’re never a host more than once per semester. The host chooses the format for the gathering: e.g. dinner at home, dinner at church, a picnic, dinner at a restaurant (each person/couple paying for themselves), etc. and they coordinate a date with the people in their group for that month. A common format when meeting in a home is to have the host provide dinner & drinks and the attendees bring the appetizer, a side or salad, and dessert.

The main thing to remember: this is about community and getting to know each other! You can do a pizza party if that’s what is easiest for you.

FAQ

Got Questions? Here are the answers to some of the most common questions.

What if I can't cook?

Nobody will know if you picked up a lasagna at Walmart. Or just have your group go out to a restaurant! 😉 Remember… We are more interested in getting to know one another.

What if my house is too small to host 6 people for dinner?

There is no rule that you need to host this at your house. You could meet at a park for a picnic or a restaurant or wherever else your creative mind decides. You could even meet at the church if it's available (Email Amy Smith at hilltopcelebrationchurchff@gmail.com)

How often do we get together?

Once per month during the Fall (Sept, Oct, Nov) and Spring (Feb, Mar, Apr). It’s a different group of people and a different host each month. If you want to do this again in the spring, you'll need to register again.

I'm single. Can I still participate?

Absolutely! If you know another single person you’d like to be paired up with, let us know. Otherwise, we will add you into the rotation along with other singles & couples.

Will there be separate groups for singles, couples, or different ages?

No. We intend to mix everyone together!

When does the host reach out to their group to pick a date for the dinner?

Everyone’s schedule is different. Some folks’ calendars fill up quickly. Ideally, the host will reach out at least the month prior to their assigned month to coordinate a date with everyone. For example, if the host is assigned November, then they would reach out to their guests at the beginning of October.

If you haven’t heard from your host, you are welcome to reach out to them. It could be that their email to you ended up in a spam/junk folder.

Is this just for Hilltop people?

No! If you're the host and want to invite another couple or single (especially if they don't have a church home), feel free! If you're not the host and want to invite someone, just run it by the host first to make sure there's enough room and that they're fine with it. They will probably ask them to bring something to share at the dinner. This, of course, would make this a Dinner for Seven or a Dinner for Eight.

Who brings what to the dinner?

We rotate the course assignments so you’re not always bringing the same thing to the dinner and you’re not always the host.

Host. The host decides the venue (home, restaurant, picnic, church, etc.) and if it's not at a restaurant, provides the main course (remember, it can be as easy as pizza or lasagna!) and drinks. The host also coordinates the date for the dinner with the people in their group.

Appetizer. The person assigned to bring an appetizer gets to bring just an appetizer. It can be as simple as chips & dip. If you’re feeling creative, try something new!

Salad or Side. If you’re assigned a salad, just bring a salad. If you're assigned a side, make sure you know what the main course is so you can bring something that complements it.

Dessert. Guess what? You get to bring a dessert! If you’re not into making something from scratch, stores have some pretty delicious options these days.

"For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." - Matthew 18:20

“Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them.” - Luke 5:29

"Food brings people together on many different levels. It’s the nourishment of the soul and body. It’s truly love." - Giada De Laurentiis
